At least 24 people have been killed after gunmen invaded Bin-Per community in the Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The attack occurred overnight between Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with the assailants reportedly attacking residents while they were asleep.
Several other residents were injured in the attack, while about 38 houses were reportedly burnt or destroyed.

The victims were buried in a mass burial conducted on Tuesday, August 18, amid grief and anger in the community.

Following the attack, distraught women and youths staged a peaceful protest, carrying leaves as a traditional expression of mourning while calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

The incident has heightened concerns over recurring violence in parts of Mangu Local Government Area, with residents urging authorities to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities.

Reacting to the incident, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack and called for calm among residents.
The governor directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and pursue those responsible for the killings, while urging communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel.

The latest attack has renewed calls for stronger security measures and sustained efforts to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
