ACU Women Wing Honours Owerri Chair Lady, Kelechi Nwaeze, With Meritorious Service Award

OWERRI, IMO STATE — The Chair Lady of the Agwa Central Union (ACU) Women Wing, Owerri Branch, Mrs. Celestina Kelechi Nwaeze, has been honoured with a Meritorious Service Award for her contributions to the development of the organisation and the Agwa community.
The award was presented to Nwaeze during the annual August meeting of the ACU Women Wing held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Double Day Hotel, Owerri, Imo State.
Presenting the award, the President-General of the ACU Women Wing, Lady Dorothy Utazi, PhD, described Nwaeze as a selfless and committed woman with a strong passion for service.
Utazi commended her leadership integrity, competence, generosity and dedication to the affairs of the women’s wing, noting that her contributions had produced visible results in both project execution and membership mobilisation.
According to her, since Nwaeze was appointed Chairperson of the project committee, the committee had recorded significant progress while maintaining transparency in its dealings.
“Since making Mrs. Kelechi Nwaeze the Project Chairperson of the committee, it is not only that the job is going smoothly, she does not add a penny to any item. If she tells you the price of cement, take it to the banker,” Utazi said.
The ACU Women Wing President-General also praised the Owerri Branch for its growth in membership under Nwaeze’s leadership.
She said the award recipient had demonstrated her commitment to service not only through leadership but also through personal sacrifices and generosity.
“Owerri Wing has also witnessed serious improvement in membership drive since she took over as the Chair Lady,” Utazi said.
She added that Nwaeze personally prepared the food served at the August meeting, describing her as “a personality of great worth” and someone the women were proud of.
In her response, Nwaeze expressed appreciation to the ACU Women Wing for recognising her contributions, saying the honour would further strengthen her commitment to community development and service to humanity.
“Today, I am very elated to receive this award and I don't take it for granted,” she said.
She dedicated the award to God, her husband and children, whom she credited for their continued support and encouragement.
“This award is dedicated to God, who gave me life, and my beloved husband and children for always supporting me to do more,” she said.
Nwaeze further announced a donation of N100,000 in appreciation of the honour, noting that it was particularly significant to her because it was the first award she had received.
The celebration also attracted cash donations and other forms of support from her children, friends and well-wishers in recognition of the honour.
The ACU Women Wing August meeting also featured the presentation of awards to other distinguished sons and daughters of Agwa for their contributions to the community.
Among those honoured were High Chief Sir Prof. Humphrey Chukwuemeka Ugo, Dr. Kevin Ihetu, Dr. Kelechi Achilike, Hon. Goddey Onyewuchi Nwabekee, the ADC candidate for Oguta State Constituency in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election, Mr. Cajetan Onuegbu and Prince Chidi Nwokeocha (Ezembi).
Other award recipients included Mrs. Edith Chinyere Amaze Obi, Mrs. Rebecca Onwuzugha and Mrs. Chika Obodo.
The annual August meeting provided an opportunity for the ACU Women Wing to celebrate outstanding members and community leaders while reaffirming its commitment to service, unity, empowerment and the development of Agwa.
