Adeleke Visits Wike, Presents Certificate of Return After Tinubu Meeting

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, shortly after his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Adeleke’s visit came days after he secured victory in the Osun State governorship election conducted on August 15, 2026, on the platform of the Accord Party.
During the visit to Wike, Adeleke was pictured displaying his Certificate of Return, which he received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the election.
The meeting attracted attention against the backdrop of recent political developments surrounding Adeleke’s victory and his engagements with prominent political figures in Abuja.
Reports indicate that Adeleke had earlier visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he presented his Certificate of Return to the President.
The governor subsequently met with Wike at the FCT Minister’s residence/office in Abuja. A photograph from the meeting showed Adeleke and Wike together with the certificate, highlighting the governor’s recent political engagements following his re-election.
Adeleke won the August 15 governorship election after securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. The Accord candidate won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11.
The election result marked another significant political development in Osun, with Adeleke set to continue as governor for another four-year term.
The governor subsequently received his Certificate of Return, formally confirming his status as the winner of the election. Reports published on August 19 said Adeleke received the certificate and also announced a N500 million fund for victims of election-related violence.
His visit to Wike has also generated political interest because of Wike’s prominent position in Nigerian politics and his continuing influence within national political circles.
However, there was no immediate indication that the meeting represented a formal political realignment or that Adeleke had taken a decision concerning any future political movement. The meeting should therefore be viewed primarily as an engagement between two senior Nigerian political figures unless either party provides a different explanation.
The visit also followed a tense period in Osun State after the governorship election. Earlier reports indicated that Adeleke’s convoy was involved in a gunfire incident shortly after he left the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
Adeleke's renewed engagements in Abuja are expected to attract further attention as he prepares for the next phase of his administration and works to consolidate the political mandate secured through the Accord Party.
The governor's meeting with Wike is also likely to fuel political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly given the wider realignments taking place among political actors and parties across the country.
For now, Adeleke remains focused on his mandate in Osun State, while his meetings with President Tinubu and other influential political figures have placed him at the centre of renewed national political attention following his electoral victory.
