The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has appointed Comrade Agu Diamond Bryan as its Acting National Spokesperson, succeeding Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, National Leader of the Action People's Party (APP), and the party's leader for its 2027 House of Representatives candidates.

The appointment, conveyed in an official letter dated 6th August 2026, marks a new chapter in the coalition's media and public engagement strategy as it continues to position itself as Nigeria's leading opposition platform.

According to the appointment letter signed by the Acting National Chairman of CUPP, High Chief Peter Ameh, Agu's appointment followed the approval of the coalition's Steering Committee at its emergency meeting held on 2nd August 2026.
The letter reads in part:

"We are pleased to appoint you as the Acting Spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), following due consideration and approval by the Steering Committee at its emergency meeting held on 2nd August 2026."

The letter outlined Agu's principal responsibility as articulating the positions of opposition political parties on issues relating to the shortcomings and non-performance of the government in power.

It also emphasized that CUPP remains a coalition platform rather than an endorsement vehicle for political candidates, warning that under no circumstance should the Acting Spokesperson endorse any individual, candidate or political party without the prior written approval of the Steering Committee.

The letter further reminded the newly appointed spokesman of the enormous responsibility attached to the office, stressing that opposition politics comes with significant challenges, pressures and temptations.

"We therefore expect that you will discharge your responsibilities with integrity, discipline and unwavering commitment to the ideals and objectives of the Coalition," the letter added.
Comrade Agu Diamond Bryan is a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State and one of the respected voices in Nigeria's media and political communication space.

A native of Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Agu is a seasoned journalist with Diamond Express and a former Chief Press Secretary to Senator Ifeanyi Ararume. He is also a Health Consultant and holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
Over the years, he has built an impressive career spanning journalism, governance, public affairs and political mobilization.

He is widely known as the presenter of "Democracy in Action", a popular interactive political programme on Ozisa FM, Owerri, where he provides analysis on governance, democracy and national issues while engaging listeners on topical political developments.

Beyond broadcasting, Agu currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the Rise Up Naija Movement (RUN). He previously served as the Imo State Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and is also the Convener of the Southeast ADC Mobilization Network (SEMN), a platform established to strengthen grassroots political participation across the South-East.

Political observers believe his appointment comes at a critical period when opposition parties are intensifying efforts to provide coordinated alternatives on national issues ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His extensive experience in journalism, strategic communication, political organization and public advocacy is expected to strengthen CUPP's messaging, deepen collaboration among opposition parties and reinforce the coalition's role in promoting accountability and democratic governance.

Analysts also note that Agu's emergence reflects CUPP's commitment to appointing experienced professionals capable of effectively communicating the coalition's vision while engaging Nigerians on issues of governance, electoral reforms and national development.

With decades of experience in media, politics and public service, Agu is expected to bring renewed energy and strategic direction to the coalition's communication architecture.

His appointment is widely seen as an opportunity to strengthen the opposition's voice, enhance CUPP's visibility in national politics and contribute meaningfully to the consolidation of democracy through constructive engagement, issue-based advocacy and responsible leadership.
