ABUJA – President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday administered the oath of office to four newly elected senators following their victories in the recent by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The newly inaugurated lawmakers are Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Envulu Anza of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District; Ikeje Asogwu of the APC, representing Enugu North Senatorial District; and Dayo Faduyile of the APC, representing Ondo South Senatorial District.
Their swearing-in took place during plenary at the Senate chamber, formally marking the commencement of their legislative duties in the 10th National Assembly.
The lawmakers emerged victorious in the by-elections held last Saturday to fill vacancies created by death and appointment in the affected senatorial districts.
The Rivers South-East seat became vacant following the death of former Senator Barinada Mpigi, while the Nasarawa North seat was left vacant after the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
In Enugu North, Ikeje Asogwu succeeded the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, whose passing created the vacancy in the district.
Similarly, Dayo Faduyile was elected to represent Ondo South following the appointment of former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new senators and urged them to contribute meaningfully to legislative debates and national development as they assume their responsibilities in the upper chamber.
The inauguration restores full representation to the four senatorial districts and strengthens the Senate's legislative capacity as it continues its work on national governance and policy matters.
