Bonny LGA: Nyesom Wike Cup 2026 Kicks Off Today as Ward 4 Faces Ward 6

BONNY, RIVERS STATE — The Bonny Local Government Area Nyesom Wike Cup 2026 football tournament will officially kick off today, Sunday, August 9, with Ward 4 taking on Ward 6 at the Government School, Bonny.
The opening fixture is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., marking the beginning of a tournament designed to bring together football teams representing wards and various community groups across Bonny Local Government Area.
The Bonny Local Government Council recently announced the tournament as part of its efforts to promote football, youth participation, sportsmanship and community engagement. The competition is scheduled to run from August 9 to August 23, 2026.
The tournament, which carries the name of Nyesom Wike, the former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is expected to provide a platform for young footballers in Bonny to showcase their talents and attract greater attention to grassroots football.
The official fixture schedule shows that the opening encounter between Ward 4 and Ward 6 will be followed by a series of matches involving the other participating teams.
On Monday, August 10, Ward 2 will face Ward 10 at noon, while Ward 5 will take on Bus Union at 3:00 p.m. On Tuesday, August 11, Non-Indigene will play Okada Union at noon, followed by Ward 6 against Ward 12 at 3:00 p.m.
The fixtures will continue on Wednesday with Ward 1 facing Ward 3 at noon and Ward 8 taking on Keke Union at 3:00 p.m. The schedule lists Ward 11 against Ward 7 for Thursday, August 13, at 3:00 p.m.
The tournament is being sponsored by the Bonny Local Government Council, with reports indicating that a total prize package of ₦10 million has been attached to the competition.
