INEC Lists Udogwu as NDC Oguta Assembly Candidate, He Seeks Unity Ahead of 2027

OWERRI, Imo State — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed Mr. Ikechukwu David Udogwu as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Oguta State Constituency in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election.
The listing by the electoral commission has further clarified the NDC’s representation for the Oguta State Constituency contest, coming amid earlier claims and counterclaims over who would fly the party’s flag in the election.
According to INEC’s 2027 timetable, the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on February 6, 2027, making the development an important step in preparations for the forthcoming poll.
Reacting to his listing, Ikechukwu commended INEC for what he described as its commitment to its constitutional responsibility and urged the commission to conduct a free, fair, credible and transparent election.
He also called on the electoral body to learn from the shortcomings associated with the 2023 general election.
“The 2023 election was one of the shameful chapters in this country’s quest for democratic advancement, credible elections and good governance. I think INEC, with the constitutional mandate to conduct elections in Nigeria, should do better and conduct the 2027 elections transparently. There should be no room for technical glitches,” he said.
He appreciated the National, State, LGA and Ward leadership of the party for their resolve in providing a credible alternative for Nigerians and Ndi-Oguta, ready to take over power and provide visible and human-oriented governance at all tiers of government.
The NDC candidate expressed confidence in his chances at the election, declaring his readiness to contest and secure the mandate of the people of Oguta.
Beyond the election, however, Ikechukwu called for reconciliation among members and stakeholders of the NDC, stressing that internal division could undermine the party’s chances at the polls.
“NDC Oguta is the party to beat. Owing to claims and counterclaims, the matter has now been laid to rest, and I want to express my confidence in working with genuinely engaged party members and making Oguta Constituency a more habitable place if elected.
“Already, our National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and His Excellency, Chief Achike Udenwa, have stepped up reconciliation efforts aimed at bringing everyone on board to work for our great party ahead of the general elections and to deliver our candidates, including His Excellency, Mr. Gregory Peter Obi, to give Nigerians good governance and development.
“This effort, I appeal, should be the concern of all party faithful who wish the NDC well,” he added.
Ikechukwu also appealed to the party’s leadership and grassroots structures to close ranks and work collectively for the success of the NDC in the 2027 elections.
“To all our party leaders, Ward, LGA and State Executives, please, let us set aside our differences and work for the unity and victory of our candidates in the general elections.
“Opposition does not do impunity, and a divided opposition does not win elections.
“This is the time to build, restrategise and implement for victory. I am confident that the good people of Oguta will give us the mandate, and the NDC will win Oguta State Constituency come 2027,” he concluded.
Ikechukwu Unveils Agenda for Oguta
The NDC candidate said his ambition to represent Oguta State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly was driven by a desire to make the constituency more developed, economically viable and responsive to the needs of its people.
“For my pledge to Ndi-Oguta, I am here to make Oguta proud, amplify our voices on the floor and raise public concerns as they affect Oguta people in basic education, health, employment, security and other areas of social security and empowerment.
“My representation will also take cognisance of persons with special needs and our aged parents through social welfare programmes. I am here to serve, and together, we can do better for our people because they deserve the best,” he said.
Among his stated priorities are creating a business-friendly environment, promoting equal opportunities for residents, improving community funding, maintaining effective communication with constituents and undertaking regular consultations to identify and address developmental needs.
He also pledged to pursue meaningful projects capable of improving the living conditions of ordinary residents of Oguta if elected.
Who Is Ikechukwu David?
Ikechukwu David was born on February 11, 1988, into the family of the late Chief Christopher Udogwu and the late Lolo Nkeiruka Udogwu.
He hails from Ndionyemobi community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
Ikechukwu is married to Mrs. Ikechukwu Geraldine Nneka, and they are blessed with three children.
He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Dominate Global Resources and has also worked with other organisations.
Beyond business and politics, Ikechukwu is an author. His published works include Life as an Important Institution, published in 2005, and Thinking Deep, published in 2013.
As the 2027 election approaches, Ikechukwu’s emergence on the NDC platform places him at the centre of the party’s preparations for the Oguta State Constituency contest.
His call for reconciliation is expected to form part of broader efforts to unite party stakeholders and strengthen the NDC’s grassroots structure ahead of the election.
