The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to candidates who emerged victorious in the bye-elections conducted on June 20, 2026, across Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Kano states.
The certificates were presented on behalf of the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the elected representatives on their victories and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their constituents through dedicated and effective representation.
She emphasized that beyond electoral success, the primary responsibility of the elected officials is to serve the interests of the people and contribute meaningfully to the development of their constituencies.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu also disclosed that Certificates of Return would subsequently be presented to winners of the Zuru State Constituency election in Kebbi State as well as the recently concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.
National Commissioners representing the various constituencies took turns to formally present the certificates to the successful candidates, officially confirming them as the duly elected winners of their respective elections.
The presentation of Certificates of Return marks the final stage of the electoral process, paving the way for the elected officials to assume their legislative responsibilities in accordance with constitutional provisions.
