Inside Agwa News Calls for Greater Intervention in Agwa Secondary School Renovation as Dibiagwu’s N15m Support Takes Effect

AGWA, Oguta LGA, Imo State — The ongoing renovation of Agwa Secondary School in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, has recorded progress following a N15 million intervention by Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu, member representing Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
A visit to the school by an Inside Agwa News reporter showed that one of the school blocks being renovated with the support of the federal lawmaker has been reroofed.
The development is expected to contribute to efforts to restore the school’s facilities and create a more conducive environment for students and teachers.
Dibiagwu’s intervention followed a meeting with the leadership of Agwa Central Union (ACU) and other community stakeholders in Owerri on August 1, 2026, during which the lawmaker donated N15 million towards the completion of the renovation of one of the school blocks.
The intervention was aimed at accelerating work on the facility and facilitating the return of students to a safer and more suitable learning environment.
The donation has been welcomed by the ACU leadership and other residents of Agwa, who expressed appreciation for the lawmaker’s support towards the rehabilitation of the school.
The engagement also involved other Agwa stakeholders, including Hon. Williams Ejiako, a supporter of Dibiagwu and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Imo Progressive Movement (IMP), as well as ACU President, Mr. Nduka Ozor, and other community leaders.
However, Inside Agwa News has called for the renovation to be extended to the remaining seven blocks within the school premises.
The publication said the rehabilitation of only one block would not adequately address the broader infrastructure challenges confronting the school and urged relevant authorities to ensure the comprehensive renovation of the facility.
According to the publication, the condition of educational infrastructure in Agwa deteriorated significantly during the period of insecurity between 2022 and 2024, when several public facilities were reportedly vandalised.
School buildings, laboratories, furniture and other educational equipment were among facilities reportedly affected, contributing to disruptions in access to quality basic education in the community.
The situation has also raised concerns over the learning conditions of students, with some reportedly compelled to study in temporary or makeshift environments that stakeholders consider inadequate for effective learning.
Inside Agwa News has therefore appealed to lawmakers representing Agwa and the wider constituency, ISOPADEC, NDDC, the Oguta Local Government Council and the Imo State Government to support the rehabilitation of Agwa Secondary School and other affected educational institutions in the clan.
The publication said government intervention in education should be treated as a priority, stressing that investment in educational infrastructure would contribute to the development of human capital and the long-term growth of the community.
It also urged the relevant government agencies and political representatives to complement Dibiagwu’s intervention by providing additional funding and projects to rehabilitate the remaining blocks, laboratories and other critical facilities at the school.
The ongoing work on the first block has been described by community stakeholders as an important step in the restoration of the school, but calls remain for a broader intervention to address the institution’s outstanding infrastructure needs.
Agwa Secondary School is located in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. The school has faced infrastructure challenges following years of insecurity and reported vandalism that affected buildings, laboratories, furniture and other educational facilities. The current renovation effort has renewed calls for coordinated intervention by government agencies, elected representatives and development institutions to restore educational infrastructure and improve learning conditions in Agwa.
