Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi died peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Her death has attracted condolences from political leaders, organisations, friends and associates of the former Rivers State governor.
She was widely described in condolence messages as a devoted Christian and family matriarch who was committed to her faith, family and community. President Bola Tinubu, in his condolence message, described her as a woman whose life reflected faith, humility, sacrifice, kindness and service to humanity.
The African Democratic Congress has also mourned the deceased, describing her as a mother whose love, guidance and sacrifices helped shape generations. The party prayed for strength and comfort for Amaechi and members of the bereaved family.
Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers State, is currently the ADC's Vice-Presidential Candidate for the 2027 general election.
The condolence visit by the MACBAN and Kautal Pulaku delegation comes amid a series of visits and messages of sympathy from political leaders and groups following the death of the former governor's mother.
The organisations' representatives used the occasion to stand with Amaechi and his family as they mourn the loss of the family matriarch.
The visit also underscored the personal relationships between Amaechi and individuals and groups outside his immediate political circle, who have continued to identify with him during the mourning period.
The delegation expressed its condolences and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, while wishing the Amaechi family strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.
Funeral arrangements for Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi were expected to be announced by the family.
