OWERRI, IMO STATE — Mrs. Edith Chinyere Amaze Obi, an estate developer, administrator and fashion entrepreneur, has been honoured with an Outstanding Leadership Award by the Agwa Central Union (ACU) Women Wing for her contributions to the organisation, community development and humanity.

The award was presented to Mrs. Obi during the 2026 ACU Women Wing August Meeting held on Saturday, August 15, at Double Day Hotel and Suites, Owerri, Imo State.

The event attracted several dignitaries, community leaders and other award recipients, including High Chief Sir Prof. Humphrey Chukwuemeka Ugo, Dr. Kelechi Achilike, Dr. Kevin Ihetu, Hon. Goddey Onyewuchi Nwabekee and Mrs. Celestina Kelechi Nwaeze, among others.

Speaking on the recognition, the President-General of the ACU Women Wing, Lady Dorathy Utazi, PhD, described Mrs. Obi as an “amazing personality,” noting that she had distinguished herself through forthrightness, commitment and determination to achieve her goals.

Lady Utazi said the recipient had demonstrated qualities worthy of recognition and had continued to make meaningful contributions in areas within her reach.

Also speaking, the Lagos State Chairlady of the ACU Women Wing, Mrs. Faith Nwanochi, commended Mrs. Obi for her longstanding service to the women of Agwa, particularly during her years in Lagos before relocating to Owerri.

Mrs. Nwanochi described the award as well deserved, stressing that Mrs. Obi had consistently committed her time, resources and energy to the advancement of the organisation and service to humanity.

Responding on behalf of his wife, Dr. Amanze Obi expressed appreciation to the ACU Women Wing for recognising his wife's contributions and for its leadership and efforts towards the development of Agwa.

Dr. Obi said the descriptions given by Lady Utazi and Mrs. Nwanochi were consistent with his personal assessment of his wife, whom he described as a forthright person who makes positive contributions wherever she finds herself.

He emphasised the importance of truth and frankness in organisational and community development, saying that people should be courageous enough to tell the truth when necessary because truth contributes to the progress of society.

Dr. Obi also appreciated delegates who travelled from different states to attend the August meeting and announced a personal donation of N100,000 to support the award presented to his wife.

Other individuals who supported the award on behalf of Mrs. Obi included Umezuruike Iruaku Kuti, a serving senior police officer; Hon. FBI, an NDC candidate for the Federal House of Representatives in the 2027 election; and Mrs. Obi's daughter, a lawyer.
