‎The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ben Nwoye, has emphasised the importance of grassroots political engagement, stating that elections are won at polling units through voter participation rather than on social media platforms or television appearances.

‎Nwoye made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News while reacting to the outcome of the recent Ekiti State governorship election.

‎According to him, political actors must focus on building strong connections with voters at the community level instead of relying on online popularity and media visibility.

‎He argued that the election result reflected the choices made by residents of Ekiti State through the democratic process.

‎“The people of Ekiti State spoke; they practised democracy at the polling units, not on the internet or in television studios,” Nwoye said.

‎The APC chieftain maintained that democracy requires direct interaction with the electorate and sustained grassroots mobilisation.

‎He noted that many citizens do not actively participate in political discussions on social media or have regular access to television broadcasts, but remain informed about developments and governance within their communities.

‎“Many people do not even have access to television stations, but they understand the kind of work being done in the state,” he said.

‎Nwoye added that political leaders and their supporters should concentrate more on engaging voters at the grassroots level, stressing that electoral success depends on support garnered from the electorate at polling units across the country.
