Osun Election Results Update: Adeleke Takes Early Lead in Results From 49 Polling Units

OSOGBO, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA — The incumbent Governor of Osun State and Accord governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has taken an early lead over his major challenger, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), based on unofficial results emerging from polling units across the state.
The figures available so far, collated from 49 polling units, show Accord ahead in a number of the polling units where results have been announced at the local level. However, the figures remain provisional and must not be regarded as the final result of the election.
Based on the results supplied, Accord has so far recorded 7,775 votes, while the APC has polled 4,119 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC), whose governorship candidate is Najeem Salaam, has recorded 119 votes in the polling-unit results listed.
The emerging figures include a strong performance for Adeleke's Accord in his political strongholds. At Ede South, Jagunjagun Ward 1, Unit 5, Accord recorded 313 votes against APC's 56. At another Jagunjagun polling unit, Accord scored 203 votes to APC's 60.
Accord also recorded 274 votes against APC's 40 at Egbedore Ward 3, Unit 3, while Obalaoye Alajue 1 Unit 4 produced 332 votes for Accord against 34 for APC.
Other results showed Accord leading in several polling units in Osogbo, Ilesha, Ife, Iwo, Ifedayo and other parts of the state.
At Osogbo Ward 4, Unit 29, Accord polled 281 votes, while APC scored 82 and ADC eight. At Osogbo Ward 11, Unit 19, Accord recorded 231 votes against APC's 141.
The APC, however, posted significant wins in some polling units. At Iragbiji Ward 3, Unit 9, APC scored 306 votes against Accord's 99. At Olorunda Ward 9, Unit 7, APC recorded 211 votes to Accord's 72, while Ayeedade/Odeomu Ward 5, Unit 18, gave APC 89 votes against Accord's 56.
A number of polling units also produced close results. At Okuku Ward 1, Unit 5, both Accord and APC recorded 128 votes each.
The early figures are coming as election officials continue the statutory process of sorting, counting, recording and transmitting results from polling units to the appropriate collation centres.
It is important to stress that these figures are unofficial results compiled from results emerging from individual polling units and do not constitute a declaration of the winner.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains the legally recognised electoral body responsible for the collation and declaration of the final Osun governorship election result. INEC is still collating results, and only the Commission has the authority to officially validate the figures and declare the winner.
Therefore, the emerging lead by Adeleke should be treated strictly as an early indication based on the polling-unit results currently available, pending the completion of the official collation process.
