Otti Announces Second Phase of NYSC Camp Renovation in Abia

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced the immediate commencement of the second phase of renovation works at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area of the state.
Otti made the announcement when he received the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and his delegation during a visit to the state.
The governor said the ongoing rehabilitation of the orientation camp was part of his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare, safety and working conditions of corps members deployed to Abia.
According to him, the second phase of the renovation would commence immediately, building on work already undertaken at the camp.
Otti also highlighted improvements being made in healthcare facilities across the state, noting that the government remained committed to providing an environment where corps members could serve without unnecessary challenges.
More than 8,800 corps members are currently serving across the 17 local government areas of Abia State, with female corps members accounting for a significant proportion of the NYSC population in the state.
The NYSC delegation commended Abia for maintaining a safe, peaceful and welcoming environment for corps members serving in the state.
The favourable security environment, according to the NYSC, has contributed to the smooth deployment and service of corps members across communities in the state.
The governor further disclosed that more than 340 NYSC healthcare professionals are currently serving in various locations across Abia.
He said the presence of the healthcare professionals was important to strengthening medical services and ensuring that corps members and other residents in their areas of deployment could benefit from improved healthcare support.
Otti assured the NYSC leadership that his administration would continue to collaborate with the organisation to address issues affecting corps members and improve the facilities available to them.
The governor’s announcement comes amid continued efforts by the state government to upgrade infrastructure and public facilities across Abia.
The NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunna serves as a major facility for corps members deployed to the state for their orientation programme before they proceed to their primary places of assignment.
The second phase of renovation is expected to further improve facilities at the camp and provide better accommodation and other essential services for corps members undergoing orientation.
The NYSC Director-General’s visit provided an opportunity for the organisation and the state government to discuss the welfare of corps members, the condition of NYSC facilities and the general environment for national service in Abia.
With thousands of corps members deployed across the state and hundreds of healthcare professionals contributing to medical services, the collaboration between the NYSC and the Abia State Government remains important to the effective implementation of the national service programme.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that corps members serving in Abia are provided with a secure and conducive environment throughout their period of service.
