Peter Obi has pledged to establish a functional primary healthcare centre in each of Nigeria's more than 8,000 political wards if given the opportunity to implement his healthcare agenda.
Speaking during a visit to the Wazobia Wura community in Apo, Abuja, Obi said improving access to quality healthcare at the grassroots remains a critical component of national development. He stressed that healthcare services should be readily available to citizens regardless of their location.
According to Obi, establishing functional primary healthcare centres in every ward would help reduce maternal and child mortality, improve the management of preventable diseases, and provide timely medical interventions for millions of Nigerians.
He further stated that strengthening primary healthcare would reduce unnecessary pressure on secondary and tertiary health institutions by ensuring that common medical conditions are treated effectively at the community level.
Obi noted that investing in grassroots health infrastructure is essential to building a healthier and more productive population. He maintained that quality healthcare, alongside education and other social services, should remain a priority in national development planning.
The former presidential candidate said the proposed initiative reflects his commitment to improving healthcare delivery and expanding access to essential medical services across the country, particularly in underserved communities.
