Radda Receives PDP, ADC Defectors as APC Gains Ground in Katsina

KATSINA, KATSINA STATE — Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has received a group of politicians and supporters who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were formally welcomed into the APC during a ceremony held at the Katsina State Government House, in a development that signals another shift in political allegiance ahead of future elections.
Governor Radda, while addressing the new members, described their decision to join the APC as an endorsement of his administration's policies and programmes across the state.
He pointed to the administration's focus on infrastructure, education and grassroots development as some of the areas that have influenced the decision of the defectors to align with the ruling party.
Radda urged existing APC members to receive the new entrants and ensure their effective integration into the party.
He stressed the importance of unity among party members, saying collective efforts would be necessary to sustain the state's development and strengthen the party at the grassroots.
The governor also encouraged the defectors to participate actively in the affairs of the APC and contribute to the party's growth across Katsina State.
Leaders and representatives of the defecting politicians said their decision was influenced by what they described as visible achievements by the Radda administration and confidence in his leadership.
They expressed their readiness to work with the APC and support the governor's development agenda.
The latest defection adds to the continuing political realignment in Katsina State, where opposition politicians and supporters have continued to reassess their political affiliations ahead of future electoral contests.
The movement of members from the PDP and ADC into the APC could further strengthen the ruling party's grassroots structure in the state, while potentially affecting the strength and organisational capacity of the opposition parties.
Political defections are common in Nigeria's political landscape, particularly as parties and politicians position themselves ahead of elections. Such movements can alter party structures, influence local political calculations and reshape alliances across constituencies.
