The struggle for Women inclusivity and emancipation from political irrelevance in the leadership hocus pocus of Nigeria is one which has continued to gain tremendous momentum in recent time, following the show of immense strength and capacity by Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, when she boldly made a case for women inclusivity into the leadership of the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives, and Nigeria Leadership cadre as a whole, by fiercely contesting for the Speakership, and Deputy Speakership Positions. Beyond that, she has continued to show immense capacity and abilities to drive meaningful development in Okigwe North Federal Constituency.
True to the words of Margaret Chase Smith, Rt Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, proved that "The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right, when it is unpopular, is a true test of moral character."
Through her clear cut ideological disposition, it was cristal and evidently clear that this Woman of great leadership prowess and acumen, is not in leadership for her personal aggrandizement, and gratification, but to propagate two major cardinal points which have been given minimal attention in Nigeria.
1. Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, joined politcs to champion the course of women emancipation from the shackles of political irrelevance and backwardness: Overtime, the capacity of women to be in governance and strategic leadership positions have often been relegated to the background. This ideology changed drastically with the bold statement of "Women are also imperative aspect of leadership and governance, full of competence and capacity" made by Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha. The bold moves rejuvenated the consciousness of women to take their rightful place in the political terrain of Nigeria.
Through her actions, she proved true the words of Hillary Clinton, when she opined thus: “We know that when women are empowered, they immeasurably improve the lives of everyone around them—their families, their communities, and their countries.”
Since the dogged move by Rt. Honorable Princess Miriam Onuoha, the inclusion of Women in the governance of Imo State, vis-a-vis Nigeria, has continued to occupy the front burner and spaces of political discourse, and has so far gained tremendous attention.
A critical study of the composition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Cabinet since 2023 will give us an understanding that women featured significantly, especially in the Southeast geopolitical zone, where 3 out of the 5 Ministerial slots were grabbed by Women in 2023. This is a show that the agitation for Women to gain their rightful place in governance, which was popularized by Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha's aspiration in the National Assembly in 2023, has been given significant attention to thrive by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal Government.
2. To give her constituency a National face, and a strategic place in the National grid of development: It is evident that another reason for Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha's venture into politics, which was further popularized by aspiration to become Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly, was to place her constituency in a very strategic position in the grid of National development.
Her ability to dare such a rare feat has made her an unavoidably relevant National figure, whose opinions won't be swept under the carpet. Whether she got those positions or not, her doggedness has inadvertently given her constituency a National face.
Okigwe North Federal Constituency, before the the political intervention of Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, was neglected to the background in terms of critical infrastructures, and was not been given proper attention in terms of rapid developments. Today, with the representation of a Woman who understands the political undertones of Nigeria as its Representative, the narratives of uneven development is being rewritten, as the Constituency is currently moving forward progressively and being given the required National attention it deserves.
Amongst numerous developmental strides, the most evident prove of this fact is the establishment Federal Medical Center (FMC) Okigwe, the swift completion of the long abandoned Shagari low cost estate located at Eziama, Isiala Mbano Local Government, Imo State amongst others. These projects are pure evidence that Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, has the needed capacity, National appeal and charisma to pilot the developmental trajectory of Okigwe North Federal Constituency. It can only take a Representative with a National recognition to pull such great feats through.
Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha's cordial and strategic relationship with both the State and Federal Governments continues to tremendously benefited Okigwe North in numerous ways, and have attracted lots of goodwill to the Constituency.
This is a prove that aside being a legislative veteran with proven character and track records, Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, is a woman of strength, competence, and immense capacity, who has continued to place the welfare and wellbeing of her constituents above her personal gains.
Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, might not have become the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly of the Green Chamber, but she sent a strong message of hope and courage to the Women folks, and revitalized the place of Women in the Nigeria political hemisphere.
Come 2027, Okigwe North will not be used as an experimental ground to groom political amateurs, we will not sacrifice meritocracy on the altar of mediocrity by sending an inexperienced individual to the National Assembly. Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha (Nwaanyi Wu Ihe), will be returned to consolidate on the gains of her vast experience, charisma, capacity, towering influence to bring more developmental growth to Okigwe North Federal Constituency.
Okigwe North has a date with destiny in 2027 through Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha.
