The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 cohort of the EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Programme (OFP), a scholarship support initiative designed to assist academically outstanding Nigerian students seeking admission into higher education institutions in the United States.
The programme, implemented under the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, provides financial assistance to talented students with strong academic records, leadership potential, and limited financial resources, helping them overcome the costs associated with applying to U.S. colleges and universities.
According to a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, applications for the 2026 cohort opened on June 15 and will close on June 30, 2026.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications through the official EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Programme portal before the deadline.
The U.S. Mission stated that the initiative aims to expand access to quality higher education opportunities in the United States while strengthening educational and cultural ties between Nigeria and the United States.
The Opportunity Fund Programme has, over the years, supported high-achieving Nigerian students by covering application-related expenses, including standardized testing fees, application fees, and other associated costs, thereby increasing their chances of securing admission and financial aid from U.S. institutions.
Prospective applicants are advised to carefully review the eligibility requirements and application guidelines before submitting their entries.
