A Seasoned Leader, Community Builder and Political Statesman Marks Another Year

The Editorial Board of Inside Agwa News (IAN) warmly celebrates Hon. Williams Ezeikpe Ejiako, popularly known as “Willy Bassy,” as he marks another milestone in his life.
For the Editorial Board, the occasion goes beyond the celebration of another birthday. It is an opportunity to recognise a man whose political journey, public service and community engagement have made him a notable figure in the political affairs of Uwaorie, Oguta and Imo State.
Hon. Ejiako is a seasoned politician, community leader and respected chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Over the years, he has traversed different spheres of public service, grassroots politics and community leadership, building a profile shaped by political experience, resilience and sustained engagement with the people.
His journey into public leadership has seen him serve as Councillor representing Uwaorie, where he was exposed to the realities and responsibilities of grassroots governance. His subsequent appointment as Commissioner with the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) further provided him with an opportunity to contribute to matters concerning development and the welfare of oil-producing communities.
He also served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Niger Delta Affairs, a position that placed him within the broader framework of government policy and engagement on issues affecting the Niger Delta region.
His political journey has not been without electoral contests. In the 2019 Imo State House of Assembly election, Hon. Ejiako contested for the Oguta State Constituency seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emerged as the runner-up. The contest further demonstrated his grassroots political reach and determination to participate actively in the political process.
Beyond elective positions and government appointments, Willy Bassy has continued to maintain a strong presence in grassroots politics and community affairs. His political activities have extended beyond personal ambition to participation in wider political structures and movements aimed at mobilising people and shaping political conversations across Imo State.
He currently serves as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Imo Progressive Movement (IMP), a statewide political movement founded and led by Hon. Engr. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu, Member representing Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
His current role within the Imo Progressive Movement places him among stakeholders contributing to the organisation and direction of a political platform with a statewide presence. It also reflects the confidence placed in his political experience, organisational capacity and understanding of grassroots dynamics.
For the people and communities of Uwaorie and Oguta, Hon. Ejiako remains a familiar political figure whose activities have been closely associated with community engagement and grassroots mobilisation. His years in politics have given him considerable exposure to the opportunities and challenges that accompany public leadership.
The Inside Agwa News Editorial Board believes that birthdays of public figures who have spent significant portions of their lives in public service provide an appropriate moment for reflection—not only on their personal journeys, but also on their contributions to society.
In the case of Willy Bassy, his political career reflects a journey through grassroots representation, public administration, electoral politics, political organisation and community leadership. Each chapter has contributed to the experiences that define him today.
As he marks another year, we therefore celebrate not merely the passage of time, but the experiences, relationships, challenges and accomplishments that have shaped his journey.
We also acknowledge the importance of continued service. Political leadership, in our view, is most meaningful when it translates into peace-building, community development, constructive political engagement, mentorship and opportunities for younger generations. As an experienced political actor, Hon. Ejiako has an important role to play in encouraging responsible participation and strengthening the connection between political leadership and the grassroots.
On this special occasion, the Editorial Board of Inside Agwa News extends its warmest birthday felicitations to Hon. Williams Ezeikpe Ejiako.
We wish him greater wisdom, sound health, renewed strength, peace of mind and continued success in the years ahead. May this new chapter bring him fresh opportunities to contribute positively to his community, Imo State and humanity.
