In a landmark political development aimed at redressing decades of systemic neglect, key stakeholders across the Oguta state Constituency have reached a consensus to cede the 2027 House of Oguta seat to the Agwa clan. The decision, which follows a damning report on the community’s marginalization, marks a turning point in the constituency's power-sharing arrangement. Leaders from the Local Government Areas have formally appealed to the people of Agwa to begin an intensive search for a credible, vibrant, and capable young man to fly the party’s flag.
The push for an Agwa candidate gained momentum following a field assessment by Community Rights Advocacy (CRA), which exposed the dire lack of infrastructure, healthcare, and electricity in the oil-rich community.
Stakeholders acknowledged that despite Agwa’s status as the second-most populous clan in Imo State and its massive voting strength, it has remained a "political orphan" without adequate representation in the National and State Assembly. This move is seen as a strategic "concession for equity," designed to heal the wounds of political exclusion and ensure the community’s vast oil wealth finally translates into local development.
During a consultative meeting held over the weekend, representatives from Oguta Youths emphasized that they would not field competing candidates against a consensus Agwa choice, provided the individual meets the criteria of integrity and competence. The stakeholders stressed the need for a "youthful and visionary" representative who can navigate the complexities of federal & State legislation and attract intervention projects to the area. They argued that the energy of a young leader is required to tackle the task of completing the abandoned General Hospital at Umuekpu and revitalizing the collapsed road networks.
The decision to limit the search to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a tactical move intended to renew the community with the state government because the government is led by Governor Hope Uzodimma. It's not in favor of our community being agwa. Leaders noted that by presenting a unified front plan within the ruling party, Agwa stands a better chance of securing the necessary executive support to fast-track its development agenda. The stakeholders expressed confidence that the Governor, will known his commitment to justice and shared prosperity, would welcome a consensus candidate who represents the genuine yearnings of the marginalized oil-producing clan.
Reacting to the development, community leaders in Agwa should describe the concession as a "breath of fresh air" and a victory for democratic fairness. They noted that the people of Agwa have consistently delivered the highest volume of votes in previous elections but have been sidelined during the distribution of political offices. With this pledge from neighboring communities, the clan is now tasked with internal unification to ensure that personal ambitions do not jeopardize this historic opportunity to produce a state lawmaker for the second time if I'm not misquoting in recent history.
The other communities' stakeholders in Ogu taForum, which has been at the forefront of the advocacy, urged Agwa youths and elders to look beyond narrow village interests and identify a candidate with a proven track record of community service. Mr Justice Chiedozie, Chairman of the Agwa Youth Movement, (AYM)stated that the search must be thorough and transparent to ensure that the individual presented is someone the entire constituency can be proud of. "We are offering our full support because we believe that when Agwa prospers, the entire Local Government constituency prospers," he added.
As the 2027 political calendar begins to take shape, all eyes are now on the Agwa clan to see who will emerge from their ranks. The coming months are expected to witness a series of town hall meetings and screenings as the community prepares to present its "best foot forward." This unprecedented alliance has sent a strong signal across Imo State that the politics of exclusion is being replaced by a new era of equity, justice, and collective growth within the Oguta Constituency.
The people further say that they are not supporting any other person other than Apostle Davidz
