Former Labour Party presidential candidate, , on Tuesday visited the Wazobia Wura Community in Apo, Abuja, where he encouraged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration exercise as part of efforts to strengthen democratic participation in the country.
During his interaction with residents, Obi stressed that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card is both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility, urging citizens not to allow apathy or discouragement to prevent them from participating in the democratic process. He noted that meaningful national development can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in electing credible leaders through free, fair, and peaceful elections.
He reminded community members that the power to influence the direction of Nigeria lies in the hands of the electorate, emphasizing that every eligible voter should register, collect, and safeguard their PVC ahead of future elections. According to him, active participation in the electoral process remains one of the most effective ways for citizens to demand accountable governance and promote responsible leadership.
Obi further highlighted that increased voter registration and turnout are essential for strengthening Nigeria's democratic institutions, enhancing public accountability, and ensuring that government truly reflects the will of the people. He called on young people, women, and first-time voters to play active roles in shaping the country's future through peaceful and lawful participation in elections.
The visit formed part of broader voter awareness and civic engagement efforts aimed at encouraging greater public participation in Nigeria's electoral process. Community members welcomed the engagement and reiterated the need for sustained voter education campaigns to improve awareness of the importance of civic responsibility and democratic participation.
Political observers have continued to emphasize that widespread voter registration, civic education, and peaceful participation in elections remain critical to deepening democracy, promoting national unity, and building a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
