The Adamawa State Government has commenced concrete steps toward the implementation of long-awaited promotions and upgrading for Basic Education teachers across the state, following directives from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri aimed at enhancing teachers’ welfare and career development.
As part of the process, the Ministry for Local Government Affairs has requested the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) to provide an updated and comprehensive assessment of the financial implications required for the exercise.
The request, conveyed in an official communication dated June 24, 2026, seeks to enable the government to accurately determine the financial requirements and conclude the necessary administrative procedures ahead of final approval and implementation.
The move underscores Governor Fintiri’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and ensuring that outstanding promotions and staff upgrading within the Local Education Authorities (LEAs) are addressed through established due process.
Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr. Murtala Umar Babayi, assured that the Board would respond promptly to the request and continue collaborating with the Ministry for Local Government Affairs and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate the process.
According to the Board, the latest development signals meaningful progress toward resolving issues surrounding outstanding promotions and upgrading for teachers in a transparent and orderly manner.
The state government also commended Basic Education teachers for their patience, professionalism, and dedication during the period of delay. It further acknowledged the constructive engagement of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa State Wing, led by Comrade Faisal Mohammed, in advocating for the interests of its members.
The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the basic education sector and ensuring that teachers receive appropriate recognition, motivation, and opportunities for career progression.
Stakeholders have been urged to remain supportive as the administrative processes continue toward the implementation of the exercise.
