The Kaani-Babbe Council of Chiefs and Leaders in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State has reaffirmed its commitment to educational development through the donation of desks to Community Secondary School, Kaani-Babbe.
The intervention, led by the Paramount Ruler of Kaani-Babbe Kingdom, Mene Zorte Fade, was aimed at improving the learning environment and enhancing the comfort of students. Speaking during the presentation, the traditional ruler described the shortage of desks as a longstanding challenge that had negatively affected students' academic experience. He expressed appreciation to community leaders and stakeholders whose collective support made the project possible.
According to the monarch, investing in education remains one of the most effective ways of securing the future of any community. He noted that the provision of the desks reflects the determination of the Kaani-Babbe leadership to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Hon. Precious Ledogo Nnaa, described the initiative as a remarkable demonstration of the community's dedication to education. He assured residents that the CDC would continue to collaborate with the school and other stakeholders to facilitate additional developmental projects that would positively impact students and teachers.
Representing community stakeholders, Rt. Hon. Gbara Edman Erelo commended the unity and commitment demonstrated by the traditional institution, community leaders, and other contributors. He pledged continued cooperation among stakeholders to elevate the school to a standard capable of competing with leading educational institutions. He further urged the school management to ensure proper maintenance of the newly donated desks to guarantee their longevity and usefulness.
In their separate responses, the Principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mrs. Joy Worthin, and the Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Mr. Mbakono, expressed profound gratitude to the Kaani-Babbe leadership for the intervention. They described the donation as timely and impactful, pledging transparency, accountability, and proper utilization of the furniture.
They also called on other communities to emulate the example set by Kaani-Babbe in supporting educational advancement.
Observers noted that the initiative underscores the critical role of community participation and partnership in the education of children. They emphasized that sustainable educational progress is often achieved when indigenous communities take active interest in the quality, values, and standards of education being imparted to their children.
The stakeholders further maintained that meaningful development in the education sector requires continuous collaboration between community leaders, parents, educators, and government institutions. They stressed that when local communities become actively involved in supporting schools and monitoring educational outcomes, substantial progress can be achieved in human capital development and social transformation.
The gesture has also been viewed as a model worthy of replication across Nigeria, with community leaders encouraged to engage constructively with teachers and academic personnel posted to their localities. Such partnerships, they noted, can foster improved learning conditions, strengthen educational standards, and contribute significantly to national development through the empowerment of future generations.
