Makinde Imposes 48-Hour Curfew Across Oyo State Amid Security Concerns

IBADAN, NIGERIA – Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared a statewide curfew, restricting movement across the state from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily, effective Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The directive, announced by the state government, is expected to remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours as authorities monitor developments and assess the security situation.
Under the curfew order, residents are required to remain indoors during the stipulated hours, while all non-essential movements and activities are prohibited. The government said the measure is aimed at safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order, and enabling security agencies to effectively carry out their operations.
Citizens have been advised to adjust their daily schedules, including business activities and travel plans, to ensure full compliance with the restriction.
The state government further urged operators of essential services to make necessary adjustments to their operations in line with the curfew regulations while ensuring the continued delivery of critical services to residents.
Authorities stressed that cooperation from the public is vital to the success of the measure and appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant throughout the period.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew, while the government assured residents that further updates would be provided as the situation evolves.
