The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the victim had been rescued and placed under protective care.
According to Ebojele, the incident was reported on June 19, 2026, after Mr. Odion Enokhimion lodged a complaint at the NSCDC Ewohimi Division concerning the disappearance of his sister, who was allegedly abducted by unknown persons on June 18.
He said operatives of the command immediately launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both residents of Ewohimi.
“The victim was successfully rescued, while investigations revealed that the suspects contacted members of her family and demanded a ransom. They initially requested N800,000 before reducing the amount to N300,000,” Ebojele stated.
He added that investigators traced and recovered conversations between the suspects and the victim’s relatives from a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects. An account allegedly linked to the suspects was also identified during the investigation.
The governor’s spokesperson further disclosed that a medical examination conducted at the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), Sen. Daisy Ehanire Danjuma Vivian Centre, Benin City, confirmed that the victim was sexually assaulted.
According to him, the survivor received immediate medical attention and psychosocial support from professionals at the centre.
Ebojele said the suspects remain in NSCDC custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies and the Edo State Government to combat kidnapping, sexual violence, and other crimes against vulnerable members of society.
